Simplar Foundation (“Simplar Foundation,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates simplarfoundation.org. This Privacy Policy explains what information this website collects, how that information is used and shared, and the choices available to you.
Information we collect
Information you give us. If you subscribe to our Newslog or research updates, we collect the name and email address you submit. If you contact us by email, we receive the message and any information you choose to include in it.
Information collected automatically. When you visit this website, we and our service providers automatically collect standard technical information, including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system and device type, referring website, the pages you view, the links you click, and the dates and times of your visits. This information is collected through cookies and similar technologies as described below.
Cookies and similar technologies
This website uses cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to operate, to remember your preferences, and to understand how the site is used. The categories in use are:
- Strictly necessary. Set by WordPress and by our caching and content delivery services to serve pages reliably and to keep signed-in sessions working.
- Preference. Used to remember choices such as whether you have already dismissed a newsletter sign-up prompt.
- Analytics. Set by Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, to measure how visitors find and use the site.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of this site function.
Google Analytics
This website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, deployed through Google Tag Manager. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers to collect information about how visitors use this site, including the pages viewed, the time spent on them, the site or search that referred you, an approximate geographic region derived from your IP address, and general device and browser characteristics. That information is transmitted to and processed by Google on our behalf, and we use it in aggregate form to understand which research and articles are useful and to improve the site.
We do not send personally identifying information to Google Analytics, we do not use Google Analytics data to build advertising audiences or personalize ads, and we do not attempt to link analytics data to the identity of an individual visitor.
For a description of how Google collects and processes data when you use sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your activity on this and other websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser settings. Where consent to store or access information on your device is required by law, we will seek that consent before those technologies are used.
Email and the Newslog
Subscriptions to our Newslog and research updates are managed through Constant Contact, which stores subscriber names and email addresses and records whether messages were delivered and opened. Constant Contact processes this information on our behalf under its own privacy commitments. Every message we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you may unsubscribe at any time or write to us and ask to be removed.
Embedded content
Some pages include videos and other content hosted by third parties, such as YouTube. When you interact with that embedded content, the provider may set its own cookies and collect information about your interaction in the same way it would if you visited its site directly. We do not control those technologies.
How we use information
- To operate, secure, and improve this website.
- To publish and distribute research, articles, and announcements to people who have asked to receive them.
- To respond to research inquiries and other messages sent to us.
- To understand, in aggregate, which content is read and how visitors find it.
- To comply with law and to protect the rights, safety, and property of Simplar Foundation and others.
How information is shared
Simplar Foundation does not sell personal information, and does not rent or trade subscriber lists. We share information only with service providers that support this website and our communications, and only to the extent needed for them to perform that work. Those providers currently include our web host, our caching and content delivery provider, Google (analytics and tag management), and Constant Contact (email). We may also disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to investigate suspected fraud, abuse, or threats to the security of the site.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in our Google Analytics property, after which it is deleted or aggregated. Subscriber information is retained until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server and security logs are retained for a limited period by our hosting provider.
Your choices and rights
- Email. Unsubscribe using the link in any message we send, or contact us and we will remove you.

- Access, correction, and deletion. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. Contact us at the address below and we will respond as required by applicable law.
This site does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, as no common standard for them has been adopted.
Children’s privacy
This website is intended for a professional and academic audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
This site is served over an encrypted connection, and we take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
